Book Review of "New Kid" by Jerry Craft
New Kid is set in the perspective of Jordan Banks, a 12-year-old kid who wants to go to an art school but his mother wants him to go to a fancy private middle school. He dreads the start of school and is picked up with Liam, who is a white kid who has been going to private schools his entire life. When he gets to the school he is lost. Andy, an annoying white kid, is telling him the status quo and who to be friends with and who to avoid when he sees Maury, a black kid like him, when some upper-classmen make fun of Maury. Jordan then met Ms. Rawle and his classmates. After that they go to lunch. All of the older kids have the better seats and they get the drafty spot near the trash cans. He then joins a soccer team. His team doesn't win but he enjoys it nonetheless. During winter break he celebrates Kwanzaa and hangs out at Liam's house.
