my experience learning Latin.

While learning Latin, I have noticed the many similarities between it and English. I mostly wanted to learn it because it seems "eldritch" or somehow supernatural.

Creating a Survey

Creating a survey was a fun experience. I learned how to make a passable survey in Google forms as well as learning that an unreliable 27 people prefer Star Wars over Star Trek. Another thing that I learned is that if anybody sees anything that I make I feel very embarrassed. I could improve the survey by adding more questions. In conclusion, I think this was a good exercise.

Summary of Nature Article

Summary of “Large-scale early Maya sites revealed by lidar” By Patricia A. McAnany Lidar is a new technology that creates a 3d model of the scanned area. Lidar needs to be mounted to a plane or a drone to fly over an area and take topographical photos. Straight lines usually mean that there was human activity and can be very useful to archeologists, and Lidar has discovered rich mayan sites in many different places, such as in Caracol. The site in Caracol was discovered to have much more terracing than archeologists thought, thanks to Lidar. Another example is in the tropical rainforests of Peten, which are the heartland of Mayan divine rulers. Lidar significantly cuts down on time spent clearing vegetation and bushwhacking.

Summary of "Polynesians, native Americans met and mingled long ago" by Lizzie wade

Summary of "Polynesians, native Americans met and mingled long ago" by Lizzie wade Evidence suggests that polynesians and native americans have met long ago. One piece of evidence is the sweet potato, which was domesticated in the andes but was found being grown as food all over polynesia. Another piece of evidence is, in a 2014 study of polynesian people from rapa nui found evidence of native american ancestry. The ancestry was most similar to the Zenu, an indigenous group from Columbia. This evidence means that Polynesians and native Americans have most likely met long before Europeans arrived.

On the history and legacy of sumeria and the olmec civilization

On the history and legacy of sumeria and the olmec civilisation     Many early civilizations have impacted our modern society, but some cultures were more impactful than others.     One of the most influential was the empire of Sumeria. Sumer built some of the first cities such as Ur, one of the most advanced city-states of the time. There was also Uruk later, that was ruled at one point by Gilgamesh, a god-king in his myths. Uruk also had one of the largest ziggurats, a multi-storied temple, that might have inspired the biblical tale of the Tower of Babel. These ziggurats were so massive that you can still see some today!    The Sumerians even created the first written language! It is called cuneiform and was first used to keep records. Originally the symbols were rough drawings of the things they were keeping track of, but slowly evolved into more abstract symbols.    Sumeria also invented the wheel, and used...

Argument for Teaching Life Skills at School

A school thing for life skills Problem: Skills taught at home aren't being taught as much, meaning people have less ability in many basic life skills. For example, knowing when you should see a doctor, budgeting, motivation, risk assessment, civil arguments, home ec (cooking, laundry, basic maintenance, shopping, planning, house cleaning, etc), media bias, and dealing with emotions, are all life skills that are being taught less and less. These skills aren't being taught at home because parents weren't taught or aren't good at them, meaning the next generation isn't learning so they aren't teaching it to their children, and so, after a while a bunch of people don't have many basic life skills. Solution: My solution would be to set aside some school time to teach those skills, I think once a week at a minimum. I don't want this to be optional or opt-in, because that means students could just not learn them if they don't want to or forget to sign up, b...
